🌳 Nyungwe Forest National Park – Rwanda
Nyungwe Forest National Park is a primate paradise and one of the most ancient rainforests in Africa, stretching across Rwanda’s southwestern highlands. The forest is incredibly rich in biodiversity and offers some of the best chimpanzee trekking and canopy walks on the continent.
🐒 Chimpanzee Trekking
Nyungwe is home to over 500 chimpanzees, and daily trekking excursions allow visitors to observe their complex social behavior in the wild. Early morning hikes bring the chance to watch them feeding, grooming, or calling through the trees.
🐾 Primate & Bird Watching
Nyungwe hosts 13 primate species, including the black-and-white colobus monkey, blue monkey, and L’Hoest’s monkey. It is also a top destination for birdwatchers, with over 300 bird species, including numerous Albertine Rift endemics.
🌉 Canopy Walk
Don’t miss the iconic canopy walkway, a 70-meter-high suspension bridge that offers incredible views over the treetops and a chance to spot birds, monkeys, and even butterflies from above the forest.
